According to Entertainment Weekly, the demands of adapting the third book – George RR Martin’s A Storm Of Swords – has driven Game Of Thrones‘ showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff to squeeze in an extra few minutes here and there.

This means that over Season 3‘s 10 episodes we could be seeing between 40 and 50 minutes of extra material!

“There’s almost another full episode’s worth of extra minutes spread across the season,” Weiss confirmed. “One of the great liberties with HBO is we’re not forced to come in at a specific time. We can’t be under 50 minutes or over 60, but that gives us a lot of flexibility.”

Benioff added that it’s a suitably “super-sized season, as befitting Storm Of Swords. Last year we had a lot of 52-minute episodes. This year is a lot of 56, 57.”

Game Of Thrones Season 3 will air from 31 March 2013. Season 2 is released 4 March 2013, pre-order it now on DVD for £28 and Blu-ray for £36 from Amazon.co.uk.
