Speaking to The Huffington Post The Wire‘s Dominic West mentioned that he’d had to turn down a role in HBO’s sword and shagging epic Game Of Thrones, saying, “I hadn’t seen it. It was a lovely part, a good part. I’m going to regret it.”

West turned down the role because it would have involved filming in “in Reykjavik for six months.”

“My problem is,” continued the actor, “I’ve got four kids, and at the moment, I’m reluctant to be away from home for a long time.

“There isn’t enough work out there to be that picky, so the only real criteria are, is it well-written, and the other criteria is about trying to be at home.”

Given the snow-clad setting and Dominic West’s hefty acting prowess – which includes 300 alongside Game Of Thrones‘ Lena Headey – could he have been offered the role of Night’s Watch turncoat Mance Rayder, leader of the Free People and King-beyond-the-Wall?

Game Of Thrones Season 3 is expected to air Spring 2013. The Game Of Thrones Season 1 Blu-ray Gift Set is out 19 November 2012, pre-order it from Amazon.co.uk now.
