The Galaxy Quest TV series has found a home on Amazon.

Following the news back in April that a Galaxy Quest TV series was in the works, it has edged one step closer to reality, with Collider confirming that Amazon will be hosting the series.

Fans will rejoice at the prospect of a series based on the cult hit – which saw the cast of a long-since cancelled (and very Star Trek-esque) TV show being flung into the midst of a fight for the fate of the galaxy after they are mistaken for the real deal.

Excitingly, the creative team will all be returning for this Paramount co-production, with original director Dean Parisot directing and executive producing, co-writer Robert Gordon on script and executive producing duties for the pilot, and executive producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein still attached.

There’s no word on whether original stars like Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman or Sam Rockwell will be returning – even in cameo form – but we’d be surprised if there wasn’t some form of nod to their previous involvement.

A release date for the Galaxy Quest series is yet to be announced. For more news on the biggest TV series, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
