Flatliners remake casts Diego Luna

The Star Wars: Rogue One star is set to join the Flatliners remake

We had nearly forgotten that 1990 horror/sci-fi Flatliners was getting a remake from Niels Arden Oplev, the man behind the original The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but a new casting rumour has our attention.

The Wrap reports that the excellent Diego Luna is in talks to join Ellen Page in the update of the Joel Schumacher movie about a bunch of arrogant young doctors who decide to cheat death by killing and then reviving themselves. Naturally, all this playing God doesn’t work out, and Schumacher’s visuals combined with the big performances from Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, Julia Roberts and Oliver Platt.

Luna has just finished working on Star Wars: Rogue One, and has appeared in a few genre efforts recently, like Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium and the Mexican animated movie The Book Of Life. We’re also huge fans of his work in movies like Milk, Casa De Mi Padre, and, of course, Y Tu Mamá También .

It’s a surprisingly enticing collection of talent so far, especially given Oplev’s recent work on the awesome Mr Robot. We’re definitely intrigued…

Flatliners will start production in July, and the report states that the line-up will be three women and two men.
