Fear The Walking Dead Season 2b has “a different look and feel”

The stars of Fear The Walking Dead look ahead to Season 2b

There are changes afoot as Fear The Walking Dead heads into the second half of Season 2. We spoke to actors Alycia Debnam-Carey, who plays Alicia, and Colman Domingo, who plays Victor Strand, to find out what’s in store.

Debnam-Carey promises “a lot more action on the horizon that changes [Alicia] in the long term,” while Domingo is looking forward to seeing how Strand’s increasing bond with the family is changing him. “I think he’s someone who’s been very controlled about exactly what he’ll let in his life and what he won’t… In a strange way he feels like [the Clarks are] becoming the thing that he didn’t have or think that he needed or wanted, possibly, which was family. And now that he’s getting it he doesn’t know what to do with it.”

The show has moved to Mexico for Season 2b, which Debnam-Carey says has “given our show a completely different look and feel, which I love, and it changes the themes of the show too. There’s a whole different spiritual and strangely religious element to this season purely because of the culture that exists in that area, the superstitions and the traditions.”

“It seemed like we were doing episode after episode and there was some conversation about faith,” Domingo says, “and I realised that’s a huge thing, that people would be trying to examine who they are. If you have nothing else, what do you believe in?”

The show is also differentiating itself from its parent show, The Walking Dead, and while Domingo loves playing an original character (“When Strand comes in it’s like ‘what is that?’ because [the audience] have never seen this, possibly. I personally don’t think I’ve seen [a character like] Strand on television”), Debnam-Carey is really interested in seeing where the two shows will end up.

“Wherever The Walking Dead and wherever our show ends up, I’d be very interested to see how different those two groups are, and if they are very very different, or if they just become the same… Maybe they [both] become numb and feral and primitive, or is one group like that but the other’s found another way to survive?… Only time will tell.”
