With filming reportedly completed on Marvel’s newest Avengers team-up, Avengers: Doomsday, many have begun to speculate who, out of those MCU alumni not mentioned in the cast “seat” announcement earlier this year, will appear. There were many names missing, so who might make an appearance? Well, one former Marvel family member says she definitely isn’t going to appear, despite her old X-Men family all but confirming.
Famke Janssen, who played Jean Grey / Dark Phoenix in the original X-Men trilogy, which were released between 2000-2007, has been being asked about the lack of a chair for her in the above announcement and, whilst doing press for her new Netflix series Amsterdam Empire, revealed she hasn’t been invited to the “party”, telling EW :
“Every time I do an interview, it’s mentioned. It’s interesting. I didn’t realise that was such a big part. Every interview I do, that will come up, and of everything I say, that is going to be the only thing that’s gonna be printed.”
Out of the Fox X-Men cast, only Janssen, Halle Berry – who has also said she will not appear in Doomsday – and Hugh Jackman didn’t have chairs for the film, although Jackman, of course, did reprise his role as Wolverine/Logan in last summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine opposite Ryan Reynolds and has expressed interest in another round, though that seems unlikely.
Patrick Stewart (Professor Xavier), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast) will all reappear in the new film, with Channing Tatum reprising his role as Gambit from Deadpool & Wolverine, although rumours are it will be a different variant on the character.
Robert Downey Jnr (Doctor Doom), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Florence Pugh (Yelena), Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Thing), Lewis Pullman (Sentry), Danny Ramirez (Joaquín Torres / Falcon), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), Tenoch Huerta (Namor) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) also star.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18th, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive on December 17th, 2027.
