Dwayne Johnson has to be one of the busiest men in movies and he’s just added another film to his upcoming slate: Shane Black’s Doc Savage.
The Rock confirmed his casting on his Instagram page over the weekend, sharing his excitement about the pulp superhero adventurer, who first appeared in 1933, in that “infectious enthusiasm” way that he has.
Black has been working on a film based on the classic pulp hero for a while now, and although Chris Hemsworth was rumoured to be up for the role in 2014, he’s recently been vocal about wanting Johnson to be his Doc Savage, and now this movie is finally coming together. The man behind The Nice Guys, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and Iron Man 3 co-wrote the script with Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry.
Filming is set to start at some point in early 2017, which is just as well as Johnson’s got roughly 17 films to shoot before then (including that Jumani reboot) and Black is working on The Predator.
