Action star Dolph Lundgren has been speaking about his new documentary, Dolph: Unbreakable, which screened as part of the 2025 Newport Beach International Film Festival last week, and attention soon turned to his role as He-Man in 1987’s cult classic sci-fi fantasy Masters of the Universe, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2027.
And now, 38 years later, it seems Lundgren will be returning to Eternia once more for a secret role in the new remake of the Masters franchise, with rumours continuing to swirl that the actor will be part of Travis Knight’s film next summer. Lundgren had mentioned that he was working on a “secret project” in London earlier this year, and fans were quick to point out that the new He-Man film was also filmed in London for the majority of its shoot. When asked about his possible appearance in the film on ExtraTV late last week, Lundgren said:
“Maybe, yeah, you will have to check it out when it comes out.”
Could he be playing King D’Vann Grayskull, one of He-Man’s ancestors in the film? Or is it more of a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo? We shall see. But it does indeed add more fire to the flames that he will make an appearance, and earlier this summer, he told Men’s Journal why he thinks the remake will work and be a true Masters film, saying
Prince Adam has a bit more romanticism to the character than other superheroes. Marvel and DC are a little harder-edged. There’s something magical and childlike about it. And even though they’re kind of making an adult picture, there’s something soft and positive about that character.”
Directed by Knight, the new remake stars Nicholas Galitizine (The Idea of You) in the dual role of Prince Adam and He-Man, with Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress and James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley as Adam’s parents, King Randor and Queen Marlena.
Masters Of The Universe opens in cinemas on June 5th.
