Filming has started on a two-part opener for Doctor Who Series 9, and the BBC has confirmed a whole load of guest stars.

Already announced is Paul Kaye of Game of Thrones fame (he played Thoros of Myr in Season 3). Kaye’s character is still a mystery but he has revealed that he spends five hours in make-up each day. So, an alien?

Joining Kaye are Morven Christie (Twenty Twelve), Arsher Ali (Four Lions), Colin McFarlane (The Dark Knight, Torchwood), Steven Robertson (Utopia, In The Flesh), Neil Fingleton (Jupiter Ascending, X-Men: First Class) Zaqi Ismail and Sophie Stone.

Showrunner Steven Moffat said: “An amazing guest cast for a brilliantly creepy two-parter by Toby Whithouse. Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman are back in Cardiff, back in the box, and back in action – for one of our scariest adventures yet!”

The as yet unnamed Series 9 premiere will be directed by Daniel O’Hara (Being Human). Writer Toby Whithouse has previously written four episodes for Doctor Who, including The God Complex and The Vampires Of Venice.

Doctor Who Series 9 will air in Autumn 2015 on BBC One and BBC America. You can buy Doctor Who: The Complete Series 8 for £34 from Amazon.co.uk. Keep up to date on all the latest TV sci-fi news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
