Third instalment Allegiant isn’t even in cinemas yet, but Lionsgate is already pressing ahead with plans for Ascendant, the fourth and final film in the Divergent series, judging by the fact that they have already found a replacement for outgoing director Robert Schwentke in the form of Lee Toland Krieger.
Best known for directing The Age Of Adaline and decent-ish comedy Celeste & Jesse Forever, Krieger represents a fairly solid if unspectacular choice to round off the series. His experience with big-budget blockbusters is minimal compared to his predecessors, but everyone has to start somewhere.
Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, Naomi Watts, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort and Jeff Daniels among others are all expected to reprise their roles for the final film in the series, with Lucy Fisher, Pouya Shahbazian and Douglas Wick producing.
The Divergent Series: Ascendant will be released in cinemas on 9 June 2017. For more news about the biggest movies, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
