Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency cancelled by BBC America

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency has been cancelled, but Max Landis thinks there’s still hope

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency may have built itself a cult fan following, but it looks like that isn’t enough; the show has been cancelled by BBC America after just two seasons. The news comes a couple of days after the US premiere of the Season 2 finale.

In a statement, BBC America said of the cancellation: “We are beyond proud of this brilliant original series and so appreciative of the outstanding team behind it including Max Landis, Samuel Barnett, Elijah Wood, and many many others.

“It was a privilege to work with this talented and passionate group of writers, producers and actors on these two seasons of Dirk. Thanks also to the passionate fans who embraced this fantastically novel world.

Something worth noting, however, is that the show’s creator Max Landis seems to think that the show could get picked up by another broadcaster if it gets enough international views, as evidenced by the following tweets:

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency was inspired by Douglas Adams’ book of the same name. It stars Samuel Barnett, Elijah Wood, Jade Eshet, Hannah Marks, Mpho Koaho, Fiona Dourif, Distin Milligan, Michael Eklund, Osric Chau, Viv Leacock and Zack Santiago. John Hannah, Tyler Labine, Amanda Walsh, Izzie Steele, Aleks Paunovic and Alan Tudyk joined the show’s cast for Season 2.
