We’re still disappointed that the BBC’s take on Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently novels didn’t make it past the first season. Okay, so it was a tad uneven at times, but the potential was definitely there. And it had the brilliant Stephen Mangan in a lead role – why would you not give him a chance to show what he can do?
In any case, it’s history, and now another crack is being made at the cult-favourite books, courtesy of BBC America and screenwriter Max Landis. This time, Samuel Barnett (Penny Dreadful, The History Boys) is taking the lead role, and is joined by Elijah Wood as his companion/assistant/sidekick Toddd, both of who you can see together in the below image from Entertainment Weekly:
In additon to Barnett and Wood, the series will also star Fiona Dourif (Curse Of Chucky), Michael Eklund (Wyonna Earp), Richard Schiff (The West Wing), Christian Bako (Shadowhunters), Neil Brown Jr (Straight Outta Compton), Aaron Douglas (Battlestar Galactica), Jade Eshete (Shades Of Blue), Mpho Koaho (Falling Skies), Hannah Marks (Hard Sell), Dustin Milligan (X Company) and Miguel Sandoval (Bad Judge).
Dirk Gently will air on BBC America later in 2016, with a UK air date to follow. For all the latest TV news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
