Defenders Netflix series confirms Alien star

An all-time genre icon will face off against the Defenders

This year’s New York Comic Con was definitely the place to be when it came to Marvel’s Netflix output. First we got the first trailer for Iron Fist, while the rest of the audience were treated to further previews of the show. Then, it happened.

Joining her fellow Defenders cast members on the stage: Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and Finn Jones (Iron Fist) was none other than Sigourney Weaver herself.

Yes, the Alien star and all-round paragon of brilliance will feature in The Defenders – which will bring together all of Marvel’s Netflix shows – as the main villain. There’s no word yet on exactly who she’ll be playing, but it almost doesn’t even matter: she’s excellent, and we still can’t quite believe this has happened.

Clearly, the people of Marvel are just as excited as we are, with executive producer and head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, saying: “Marvel is honored to have an actress of her caliber and status join what is already our biggest show ever! She is by definition a class act”

“Sigourney Weaver, what more is there to say,” concurred Cindy Holland, vice President of original content at Netflix. “She’s a formidable actress and we are thrilled to have her join our remarkable cast alongside Charlie, Krysten, Mike and Finn.”

She joins a cast that already includes the likes of Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, Finn Jones, Elden Henson, Eka Darville and no doubt many more, with Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez serving as showrunners and Drew Goddard as executive producer.

The Defenders will be available to stream on Netflix sometime in 2017. You can download The 25 Greatest Marvel Comics Ever digital edition from GreatDigitalMags.com now. For more news about the latest movies, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
