David Prowse opens a charity shop with a lightsaber

The man behind sci-fi’s most feared villain does his bit for deafblind charity Sense

We don’t normally run stories like this, but the pictures are too brilliant for words – yesterday Darth Vader actor David Prowse opened a new Sense charity shop at 61 High Street, West Wickham, BR4 ONY, cutting the ribbon with his lightsaber.

Prowse said of his appearance, When I was on the Star Wars sets I could barely see or hear in the Vader mask, so I am pleased to able to highlight Sense’s work for people with dual sensory loss and delighted to open the West Wickham charity shop.” Adding cringingly, “I sense a new force for charity retailing.”

Adrian Barker, Director of Sense Shops said, “On behalf of the team at Sense, we’re absolutely delighted that Dave has officially opened the latest in our empire of Sense shops. From the Green Cross Code Man to Darth Vader, he has been an enduring icon for so many people and we’re honoured by his presence to highlight our work.”
