Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes/Switchblade Romance) was previously attached to the project, and Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman were rumoured to be collaborating on an adaptation back in 2006 but, according to Variety, Fincher has now signed on the dotted line.

Burns’ graphic novel is a tale of teenage alienation which is set in Seattle in the 1970s when a mysterious plague, which is transmitted by sexual contact, descends upon the area’s teenagers.

Fincher is set to follow up 2007’s Zodiac with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which is due for release later this year
