David Ayer’s Bright is getting a sequel

David Ayer’s fantasy cop film Bright is getting a sequel

It turns out it doesn’t matter how hard a film is panned: if people watch it, it’s going to bag itself a sequel. David Ayer’s Bright is officially getting a Bright 2Stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton are expected to return, along with Ayer himself.

The news was announced this week in this video:

Despite the fact that about 90 percent of people on social media seemed to absolutely loathe the film, Bright still became the most viewed Netflix film ever in its first week of release and one of the biggest originals launched on the streaming service. It sounds as though everyone’s curiosity got the better of them.

You can read the first film’s synopsis here:

Set in an alternate present-day, this action-thriller directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, End of Watchwriter of Training Day) follows two cops from very different backgrounds (Ward, a human played by Will Smith, and Jakoby, an orc played by Joel Edgerton) who embark on a routine patrol night that will ultimately alter the future as their world knows it. Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.

Bright is available to stream on Netflix now. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every issue of SciFiNow.
