The Leftovers and Silence Of The Lambs star Scott Glenn has been cast in Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil TV series as Stick, the martial arts master who teaches Matt Murdock (Charlie Day) his skills.

Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s head of television, said, “Stick is one of the most important figures in Matt Murdock’s life and Scott Glenn embodies all the qualities of someone so integral to this hero’s journey.

“There are few actors who could bring such the authenticity, gravitas and charisma to such a key role in Matt’s journey to become the super hero we call Daredevil.”

Not a part of Daredevil’s classic origin story, mysterious blind sensei Stick was added to the canon by Frank Miller in Daredevil #176 (November 1981) as the mentor to both Daredevil and Elektra.

Perhaps Netflix are looking to Frank Miller and John Romita Jr’s Daredevil: The Man Without Fear miniseries, which retells Daredevil’s origins with Stick, Kingpin and Elektra all at its heart.

Like Matt Murdock, he uses his heightened senses to redress his blindness.

Stick was a huge part of the comics in the 90s, where he brought Wolverine back from his feral state, but seems to have been largely ignored since.

He also inspired Splinter in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and was played by Terence Stamp in the dreadful Elektra movie.

Daredevil will air on Netflix in 2015. You can buy Daredevil: Born Again by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli for £10.34 at Amazon.co.uk. For more on the comics that have inspired the show, pick up our 100 All-Time Greatest Comics bookazine now!
