People still gutted over Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s split (i.e.: PROBABLY EVERYONE) can take a tiny bit of comfort in the fact that Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios, who the ex-power couple portrayed in 2003’s Daredevil film, are set to reunite for Daredevil Season 2. Obviously they won’t be played by Affleck and Garner but at least it’s something.

Daredevil Season 2 will be Elektra’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be played by French actress Elodie Yung (GI Joe: Retaliation). The character was created by Frank Miller and debuted in Daredevil No. 168 in 1981. Marvel describes Elektra as “a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.”

In the comics, Elektra is a kunoichi, or a female ninja assassin, whose weapon of choice is a pair of bladed sais. Like Daredevil himself, she’s more an of antihero than a saviour, and is the daughter of a Greek diplomat.

Elodie Yung can slay with a look, but she’ll still have her sais with her

Speaking of Yung’s casting, Head of Marvel Television Jeph Leob said: “After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity.

“Paired with Charlie [Cox] as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”

Marvel revealed the news yesterday on Twitter with this exciting pic.

The news comes after last month’s announcement that The Walking Dead‘s Jon Bernthal will be playing the Punisher. Who knows, maybe a Bullseye appearance will be announced next month. We can hope.

Daredevil Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix right now. You can buy the 2003 Daredevil film on DVD for £2.22 from Amazon.co.uk. Get all the latest superhero news with every issue of SciFiNow.
