Cowboy Bebop live action series coming to Netflix

Netflix lands the live action Cowboy Bebop TV show

Last year it was announced that a live-action Cowboy Bebop TV series was in the works and now it’s found a home.

Deadline reports that Netflix will be working on the new take on the beloved anime series about a rag-tag band of extremely cool inter-planetary bounty hunters, giving Cowboy Bebop a 10-episode order. As previously reported, Midnight Radio’s Andre Nemec, Josh Appelbaum, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg (who’ve worked on things like AliasMission Impossible: Ghost ProtocolThe Dark TowerVenomCon Air and Zoo) will be executive producers on the project and that Thor: Ragnarok writer Christopher Yost is at work on the first episode.

Original director Shinichiro Watanabe will be acting as a creative consultant, and Sunrise’s Yasuo Miyakawa, Masayuki Ozaki, and Shin Sasaki of Sunrise will executive produce with Tetsu Fujimura and Matthew Weinberg.

Beyond the fact that Netflix has nabbed it, there’s no news on casting or directors.

For those unacquainted with the original (and you should really watch it, it’s brilliant), Cowboy Bebop begins with Spike Spiegel and Jet Black hunting for profitable crooks in their ship Bebop, and they’re quickly joined by fellow bounty hunter Faye Valentine, hacker Radical Edward and data dog Welsh Corgi Ein. The anime is a glorious mix of noir and sci-fi with a healthy dose of deadpan wit and eccentricity, and the only bad thing is that there’s only 26 episodes and a movie.
