Channing Tatum might drop out of Gambit, ma cherie

Is Channing Tatum on the verge of leaving the Gambit movie?

Is the upcoming Gambit movie in trouble?

The Gambit solo movie seemed to come into being solely because of Channing Tatum’s wild enthusiasm for playing the Cajun X-Man. Now, there are rumblings that the Magic Mike and 21 Jump Street star might drop out.

The Wrap reports that negotiations between Fox and Tatum have run into trouble. “One individual close to the project told TheWrap that Tatum’s reps are still in active discussions with the studio but acknowledged that ‘something is up.'”

With a recently announced shooting date and budget, and with a 7 October 2016 release date, Gambit needs to get rolling quickly. Apparently Tatum had been testing opposite possible leading ladies, including Lea Seydoux, and Rupert Wyatt has been attached as a director for a while.

Would Fox recast Tatum? If so, who should they get? Is it time for Taylor Kitsch to return to the role? Or is this all just a storm in a teacup and a rumour that will quickly die down? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Gambit is set for release on 7 October 2016. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
