Captain Planet film coming from Leonardo DiCaprio & Glen Powell

Captain Planet and the Planeteers is heading to the big screen!

According to THR, Paramount is teaming up with Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way Productions to bring everyone’s favourite environmental superhero squad, Captain Planet and the Planeteers, to the big screen.

Also set to tackle global warming is Scream Queens‘ Chad Radwell actor Glen Powell and his writing partner Jono Matt (Above The Line), who are currently in talks to pen the screenplay if the deal goes ahead. It’s likely that Powell will also star in the film.

Captain Planet And The Planeteers was a 1990-1992 children’s TV show which focused on a group of five young people, each equipped with magic rings that controlled with elements, who joined together with Captain Planet to help him fight against environmental hazards.

THR’s sources say that the new version of Captain Planet will take place years after the original show, with “the Captain now a washed-up has-been who needs the kids more than they need him”.

The film is still in the ‘in talks’ stage, but if it goes ahead the environmentally savvy DiCaprio will produce the project along with Jennifer Davisson Killoran for Appian Way.

Before Paramount and Appian Way came together, Sony had a Captain Planet project in development but it ended up losing the rights.
