Captain Marvel wants Ben Mendelsohn for the villain

Ben Mendelsohn might be playing the villain in Captain Marvel

It’s hard saying goodbye to Disney. But it looks like actor Ben Mendelsohn, who played villain Krennic in last year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, won’t have to just yet. He’s hopping straight off the Death Star and into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to Variety, Mendelsohn is currently “in talks” to play Captain Marvel‘s main antagonist. It’s believed that the character could be the leader of the Skrulls, which have already been confirmed to be making an appearance.

There’s not much news about the casting beyond that and Marvel has so far failed to comment, but we’re still excited.

Captain Marvel is set to follow the story of Air Force pilot Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), whose DNA becomes fused with that of an alien during a freak accident, giving her super powers.

The film is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with a screenplay by Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. The only confirmed cast members so far are Larson and Samuel L Jackson, who will be reprising his role of Nick Fury but before he lost his eye.

Kevin Feige is of course producing, and Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Stan Lee and Jonathan Schwartz are all serving as executive producers.

Captain Marvel is in cinemas on 8 March 2019. Get all the latest superhero movie news with every issue of SciFiNow.
