Captain Marvel confirms returning MCU regulars and Guardians villains

Captain Marvel has started filming and some familiar faces have been confirmed

Production is finally underway on Captain Marvel as Brie Larson takes on the role of Carol Danvers for directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and the new cast list has revealed some surprising returning faces.

While we knew that Samuel L Jackson would star as SHIELD head honcho Nick Fury, it’s great to see Clark Gregg’s name on the roster. We can’t wait to find out what 1990s Phil Coulson is like…probably pretty much exactly the same, to be fair.

We’re also very excited that Guardians Of The Galaxy villains Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou will star in the movie. Their presence makes a lot of sense given the 1990s setting and the fact that the Kree have been confirmed, and we’re looking forward to seeing more of Ronan The Accuser and Korath The Pursuer.

The cast also includes Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte and McKenna Grace.

“The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.  Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Captain Marvel is released on 8 March 2019. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
