Captain America: Civil War has added a great actor to its cast but Marvel are being very cagey about who he’ll be playing.
Marvel announced that Daniel Brühl, star of Inglorious Basterds, Rush, and the brilliant Goodbye, Lenin, has joined the cast of the third Captain America movie.
The press release is (quite rightly) heavy on the praise, as Kevin Feige says “With Daniel’s ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes.”
Intense and nuanced, eh? It’s easy to see how people are getting “villain” from that, but Deadline are saying villain and that’s certainly the angle Variety have gone with. They’re reporting that sources have said that Brühl will be saving his major villainy for Doctor Strange, where he “could potentially be the top menace.”
Brühl’s certainly got the chops to play villainous, but he’s incredibly versatile. It will be very interesting to see which character he ends up with.
