According to Heat Vision, The Hurt Locker and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter‘s Anthony Mackie is in negotiations to star in 2014’s Captain America: The First Avenger follow-up, Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Cap’s partner The Falcon.

Introduced in 1969 in the pages of Captain America issue 117 by writer Stan Lee and artist Gene Colan, The Falcon was comics’ first African-American superhero – also the first black superhero to not have ‘black’ in his name – and co-starred alongside Cap from 1970 to 1978 when the book was retitled Captain America And The Falcon.

The Falcon, aka Sam Wilson, is a New Yorker with the power of flight and an empathic link to birds, most closely with his own pet falcon, and superb hand-to-hand combat skills. As a contemporary link to the world, The Falcon could be a useful anchor for Cap, allowing him to explore his place in 21st Century America and really emphasising how alien this new world is to the Forties super soldier.

It’s interesting to note that in the comics, The Falcon joined the Avengers. Do you think we’ll be seeing the character in the Avengers Assemble sequel?
