According to Deadline, veteran actor Robert Redford is being courted for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the sequel to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger.

Redford, a veteran of political thrillers, is in talks to play a senior SHIELD figure, and supporting actor Maximiliano Hernández, who played Agent Sitwell in 2011’s Thor and 2012’s Avengers Assemble, will also be appearing. Sitwell was also a main character in the Marvel one-shots The Consultant and Item 47.

Hernández said on Twitter, “So it’s a much bigger role in a much darker Cap story. Lots of twists and turns. And lots secrets about the MCU revealed! I can’t say much more or the Marvel cops will revoke my SHIELD clearance! Trust me you will all freak out in the theatre when all is revealed!”

The actor added that the twists are fresh, and not taken straight from Ed Brubaker’s comic run, before deleting his tweets – the tease.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is due in cinemas 4 April 2014. Buy the first film as triple-play DVD, Blu-ray and digital copy for £17.99 from Amazon.co.uk.
