Caprica casting updates

Marsters, Oswalt join BSG spin-off.

caprica-freeJames Marsters and US comedian Patton Oswalt have signed up for parts in the upcoming Battlestar Galactica spin-off Caprica, according to various reports.

Marsters will be playing the leader of a dangerous terrorist organisation for an episode arc of at least three episodes, while Oswalt will be playing the host of a Caprican chatshow, Baxter Sarno. Oswalt recently had a well-received guest role in Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, playing a client who was caught by Tahmoh Penikett’s Paul Ballard. Marsters has, of course, had a long history with science fiction, playing the character of Spike for many years in Whedon’s Buffy The Vampire Slayer and later Angel, a recurring character in the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood, and more recently, the role of Piccolo in Dragonball Evolution.

Caprica is scheduled for a midseason premiere on Syfy in the United States. The series stars Esai Morales, Paula Malcolmson and Eric Stoltz, and is based on the fictional history of Ronald D Moore’s Battlestar Galactica reboot, which recently finished its four-season run.
