The Blade Runner sequel is one of those films that’s been rumbling along for so long that we keep forgetting it’s actually happening, but with director Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Enemy) in place, casting is underway.
Production company Alcon Entertainment (via IndieWire) stated in a press release that Ryan Gosling is “in negotiations” to star, but did not give any details as to who his character would be.
We know that the film takes place “several decades” after the original, that Harrison Ford is confirmed to return as Rick Deckard, Ridley Scott is on board as Executive Producer, and Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have written the script.
It’s difficult to pass judgement at this early stage but we’re big fans of Villeneuve and Gosling has consistently excelled in neon-drenched, violence-ridden urban landscapes and can take a beating, which is a big part of being a Blade Runner.
He’s also got the glacial stillness that would work for a Replicant…Yep, we’re on board with this choice.
