Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo have put together a shortlist of five names for the female lead in the Avengers Assemble follow-up, which is due in cinemas 4 April 2014.

Emilia Clarke (Game Of Thrones) Jessica Brown Findlay (Downtown Abbey), Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies), Alison Brie (Community) and Imogen Poots (Fright Night) are all auditioning for the role of love interest. Judging by the number of (pretend) blondes with broadly similar features to Hayley Atwell (eyes and noses all in the usual places, etc) who played the first film’s Peggy Carter, it’s tempting to wonder if they’ll be playing SHIELD’s Agent 13, her niece Sharon Carter, who plays a key role in the comic-book’s Winter Soldier story arc.

Deadline have also revealed that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow has been confirmed to be appearing in the film, which isn’t a huge surprise, but it’s nice to know.

Avengers Assemble is out now, buy it now on DVD for £8.99 or Blu-ray for £12.99 from Amazon.co.uk.
