There’s good news for fans of Marvel’s Black Panther film, i.e.: most people… Writer and director Ryan Coolger is officially returning to write and direct the sequel too. According to THR, Coogler has already closed the deal to return.
After the massive success of the first film (it grossed $700 million domestically and more than $1.3 billion worldwide) a sequel was never even in question, but Marvel needed to get the timing right in order to keep its creative team intact.
THR’s sources have said that the plan is for Coogler to write the script next year and then start production in either late 2019 or early 2020. However, the only films with release dates currently on the MCU’s slate are Captain Marvel in March 2019, the fourth Avengers film in May 2020 and Spider-Man: Far From Home the following July.
