Black Panther wants Force Awakens star

If Black Panther pulls off this piece of casting then we’re definitely sold

Having stood out from the increasingly massive superhero crowd in Captain America: Civil War, the prospect of seeing Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, aka the Black Panther in his own solo movie has already become that much more of an enticing prospect – even if there isn’t a great deal that we actually know about it yet.

However, if this article from The Hollywood Reporter has any fact in basis, then there’s another big reason to believe this could be another excellent addition to the MCU canon, as none other than Lupita Nyong’o is reportedly in talks to appear.

According to the report, she will be playing the Panther’s love interest, who is unnamed at this point. To our knowledge, the only contenders from the comics include American singer Monica Lynne (a possibility, we guess), or even Ororo Munroe, aka Storm, although considering her role in the X-Men movies we can definitely cross this off the list.

More likely it will likely be an entirely new role, although whoever she plays, hopefully it’s something worthy of her talents. Having won an Oscar for 12 Years A Slave, it was slightly disappointing to see her shrouded in CGI in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Maz Kanata (even though there’s every indication that her character will have a larger role to play in the rest of the trilogy). Hopefully this will not be the case this time.

So far the only other confirmed cast member is Boseman, although we can confidently expect Andy Serkis to reprise his role as Ulysses Klaue, having last appeared in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Ryan Coogler is directing, in addition to co-writing the script alongside Joe Robert Cole.

Black Panther will be released in cinemas on 9 February 2018. You can download The 25 Greatest Marvel Comics Ever digital edition from GreatDigitalMags.com now. For more news about the biggest movies, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
