Black Panther movie wants Creed director

Marvel might have finally found their Black Panther director

With Chadwick Boseman’s debut appearance as Black Panther just around the corner in Captain America: Civil War, Marvel might finally be getting close to landing a director for his solo movie.

Birth.Movies.Death reports that Creed director Ryan Coogler is in negotiations to direct Black Panther, who is riding the wave of that movie’s huge success both critically and commercially. Coogler would be a great choice for Marvel; before Creed was a smash he directed the excellent indie Fruitvale Station (also starring Creed‘s Michael B Jordan), so he’s got box-office clout and arthouse cred.

Marvel had previously wanted Selma director Ava DuVernay, but she passed after deciding that she didn’t want to have to face artistic compromises. Will they be able to reach a deal with Coogler?

Black Panther will be released in February 2018. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
