Bewitched being rebooted by Kenya Barris for ABC

Black-ish creator Kenya Barris is working on a Bewitched reboot for ABC

Another day, another reboot in the works… This time, it’s Bewitched, which is being explored by ABC.

Kenya Barris, the creator and writer of ABC shows Black-ish and Grown-ish, is currently developing the series after receiving a pilot production commitment.

The new series is coming from ABC Studios and Sony Pictures Television, with Barris attached to write and executive produce alongside his Black-ish co-producer Yamara Taylor. John Davis and John Fox are both serving as executive producers.

For those unfamiliar with Bewitched, it was a charming fantasy sitcom that first aired on ABC in 1964, through to 1972. It starred Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha Stephens, a witched married to an ordinary man (played by Dick York until 1969 and then Dick Sargent up to the end of the series). Due to her fondness for using magic, she would repeatedly get herself and her husband Darrin caught up in hilarious mishaps.

Barris’ version of Bewitched will be a half-hour single-camera comedy about a bi-racial couple, with Samantha being portrayed by an African-American woman and Darrin, by a white man.

Bewitched doesn’t yet have an air date. Get all the latest fantasy news with every issue of SciFiNow.
