Ben Wheatley’s monster cop thriller Freakshift adds Armie Hammer to the cast

The Free Fire star will re-team with Ben Wheatley to hunt underground monsters

As if we weren’t already excited enough for Ben Wheatley’s upcoming film Freakshift, it’s now gone and added Armie Hammer to the cast.

According to Deadline, the Nocturnal Animals actor will be starring alongside Alicia Vikander, whose casting was announced a couple of weeks ago. Vikander is occupying the role of the film’s lead protagonist, while Hammer is set to play her love interest.

Not that much is known about the film so far. However, the synopsis alone is enough to get us well and truly on board. It’s an “action thriller about a band of misfit cops who hunt down and kill nocturnal underground monsters.” We’re having a hard time finding a single word in that sentence that isn’t completely magnificent.

Freakshift will mark the second time Hammer has worked with director Wheatley, having recently starred in his comedy action thriller Fire Free alongside the likes of Brie Larson, Sharlto Copley, Cillian Murphy and Michael Smiley.

Production on Freakshift is due to start in August. Wheatley wrote the film’s script with Amy Jump, as with Free Fire, while Wheatley’s longtime producing partner Andrew Starke is set to produce via their Rook Films banner.

If you’re having trouble containing your excitement (which is totally understandable), there’s a load of concept artwork on the film’s Twitter profile (@freakshiftfilm) which is worth checking out.
