Following Ben Affleck’s recent affirmation that he would still direct The Batman, Ben Affleck has announced that he is not directing The Batman.
Yeah, bro, we know! Variety reports that the star has decided that he does not want the responsibility of directing the solo Batman movie, but he will still star and produce.
He released a statement that said: “There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
So, that’s that, then. It’s as if that hilarious Jimmy Kimmel quote meant nothing, bro. Nothing at all! Remember this?
“I’m gonna direct the next Batman, we’re workin’ on it. It’s one of those things that’s really frustrating because like with Live by Night, it took me a year and a half to write it and get it ready and I worked really hard, it’s just nobody gave a shit. No one was like ‘Where’s Live by Night?!’ But with Batman I keep getting the like, ‘Where’s the fucking Batman?!’ and I’m like ‘Bro, I’m workin’, give me a second!'”
But seriously, we’re definitely interested to know who Ben Affleck wants to direct his solo movie. The Variety report does note that this apparently has nothing to do with the commercial and critical failure of Live By Night, which seems fair enough. While that may have disappointed, Affleck is still an awesome filmmaker, and we’re still looking forward to seeing him in a solo Batman movie. You know, we just want to make sure it’s got a good director.
