The Wrap reports that Emma Watson will take one of the title roles in the new live-action musical version of the classic tale. Condon (Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Gods And Monsters) will direct from a script by Stephen Chbosky, who wrote and directed the wonderful The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, which also starred Watson.
The film was originally developed by Guillermo Del Toro with Watson set to star, but he dropped out some time ago. The star of The Bling Ring is clearly overjoyed to be finally getting to play the part, posting on her Facebook: “I’m finally able to tell you … that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action ‘Beauty and the Beast’! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’. My six-year-old self is on the ceiling — heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it. Emma xx.”
