Bates Motel Season 5 casts Silence Of The Lambs star

Grey’s Anatomy star will bring the law to Season 5 of Bates Motel

There’s another new addition to the cast of Bates Motel Season 5, and it’s a little spoiler-y, so if you’re not all caught up on the prequel adventures of Norman and Norma Bates, stop reading now!

TV Line reports that Brooke Smith has been cast as the show’s new Sheriff, Dana Green. The spoiler-y part is, of course, that she’s stepping into the law-enforcing shoes of Nestor Carbonell’s Alex Romero, who is currently incarcerated. She’s “described as competent, professional, moralistic and sharp. She possesses a small-town vibe that belies her highly observant nature.”

Smith’s been doing excellent work for years now and we’re very excited to see her join the show in its fifth and final season. You might recognise her from her run on Grey’s Anatomy, or, if you’re like us, you’ll know her as Senator Martin’s daughter Catherine, who was given some very clear instructions about what to do with lotion in The Silence Of The Lambs. She was also brilliant in the strangely underrated Series 7: The Contenders, and she’s done excellent guest work on shows like Six Feet Under, Ray Donovan, American Horror Story and Weeds.

The other big newcomer to Bates Motel Season 5 is Rihanna, who’ll be playing the iconic role of Marion Crane, while House Of Cards‘ Isabelle McNally was recently cast as Madeline Loomis “a warm and kindhearted woman who bears a striking resemblance to a young Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga)” which is obviously going to mess with Norman’s head…

The 10-episode fifth season will be the last in A&E’s popular series, and we’re hoping that it goes out with a bang.

Bates Motel Season 5 will air in 2017. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
