Away: Hilary Swank heads to Mars in new Netflix series

We’re blasting off to Mars in Netflix’s upcoming emotive space series, Away.

Away - Hilary Swank

Hilary Swank is leading the world’s first mission to Mars in Netflix’s new series, Away, and you can check out the trailer right here!

From Executive Producer Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights), Away follows American astronaut Emma Green (Hilary Swank) as she prepares to lead an international crew on the first mission to Mars and reconciles her decision to leave behind her husband (Josh Charles) and teenage daughter (Talitha Bateman) when they need her the most.

As the crew’s journey into space intensifies, their personal dynamics and the effects of being away from their loved ones back on Earth become increasingly complex.

Jessica Goldberg (The Path) is show’s writer, executive producer and showrunner. The series is written by playwright Andrew Hinderaker, who also serves as an EP, and is loosely inspired by Chris Jones’ Esquire article of the same name. Jason Katims’ True Jack Productions, Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho and Universal Television are all producing. Ed Zwick will direct the first episode and serve as an executive producer.

Away stars Hilary Swank, Josh Charles (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Talitha Bateman (Annabelle: Creation), Mark Ivanir (Homeland), Ato Essandoh (Altered Carbon), Ray Panthaki (Colette), Vivian Wu (Cathy Yan’s Dead Pigs) and Monique Curnen (The Dark Knight).

Away premieres on Netflix on 4 September.
