Arrow Season 5 casts sci-fi favourite as Talia al Ghul

Chances are you’ll recognise Arrow’s latest casting addition

One of the many things we love about Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends Of Tomorrow is the penchant they all have for casting stars of the genre – whether they be cameos or slightly more regular schedules. Now, they have done it again, with the brilliant Lexa Doig being confirmed for a recurring role as Talia al Ghul in Arrow Season 5.

All in all, we’d place this one in the ‘pleasant surprise’ category. When Katrina Law was cast as Talia’s half-sister Nyssa back in Season 2 of Arrow, we’d assumed that this was as a replacement for Talia. However, a younger version of Talia then showed up in the Legends Of Tomorrow episode ‘Left Behind’, confirming the character’s existence in the Berlanti-verse. Maybe it’s thanks to DC slightly relaxing their policy on The CW being able to use their characters, as indicated by them allowing Supergirl to cast Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, but either way we’re happy with this.

Lexa Doig as Sonya Valentine in Continuum.

She is described in the script as “an elite warrior who doesn’t pick sides but rather creates her own.” Whether this will put her on the same side as Oliver and co or in their crosshairs is anyone’s guess, but whatever happens, we’re sure she will turn out to be a memorable character.

And it’s nice to see Lexa Doig back on our screens too. Having played Sonya Valentine in Continuum and Andromeda Ascendant in Andromeda, as well as having roles in the likes of Supernatural, Primeval: New World, The 4400, Stargate SG-1, Smallville and V (not to mention Jason X. Never forget Jason X), everyone’s got their favourite character of hers, and we’re delighted to have her back.

Arrow is currently airing on Wednesday evenings on Sky1 in the UK. For all the latest TV news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
