Having first been mentioned in the Arrow Season 3 finale, we’ve been waiting to see who will be taking on the role of the mysterious Damien Darkh. Now, it appears that we have an answer, with Collider reporting that none other than Neal McDonough will be playing the alliteration-friendly villain.

Apart from the fact that he was an enemy of the late Ra’s Al Ghul, little is known about Darkh. In the comics, he’s a genius-level mastermind who has some involvement with criminal organisation HIVE. Considering that the group has been confirmed to be having a big role within the Arrow-verse at some point – it was the same group that ordered the death of John Diggle’s brother – we can expect him to clash with Team Arrow at some point.

If you recognise McDonough from anywhere, it will be as the hat-donning Howling Commando Dum-Dum Dugan, who provided backup for Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger, as well as also appearing in episodes of Agents Of SHIELD and Agent Carter. Darkh will likely be a totally different role to that of the jovial Dugan, but it’s an intriguing piece of casting nonetheless, and we look forward to seeing how he gets on.

Season 4 of Arrow will air from 7 October on The CW in the US, with a UK air date to follow. For more about the comics that inspired the TV series, pick up the 100 All-Time Greatest Comics: Revised Edition bookazine now.
