Arrow Season 3 spoilers: Wildcat cast as Laurel’s mentor

According to Deadline, House Of Payne and Power‘s JR Ramirez has joined the cast of Arrow Season 3.

Ramirez will be playing Ted Grant, better known as the Justice League’s Wildcat, a street-level tough-guy and heavyweight champion boxer.

Although introduced in the same issue as Wonder Woman – Sensation Comics #1 (January 1942) – three years after the debut of Batman, Wildcat was retconned into the earlier generation of superheroes.

A native of Gotham City, Ted Grant trained Black Canary, Catwoman and was one of the mentors sought out by a young Bruce Wayne on his journey to becoming Batman.

A old school pugilist who holds his own alongside The Flash, Power Girl and Green Lantern thanks to a killer left hook, Wildcat is frequently portrayed as gruff, combative and sexist in a sort of “OH, GRANDAD” kind of way.

In Arrow Season 3, we could be seeing Wildcat mentoring Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) as she works toward her own superhero destiny.

Ramirez is perhaps a bit too young for a straight-up lift of Ted Grant, but that wouldn’t really be the Arrow method anyway.

Expect plenty of things we recognise, and maybe a few hints of the other Wildcats: Tom Bronson and Yolanda Montez.

Arrow Season 3 returns to The CW on 8 October 2014 and soon after on Sky 1 and Sky 1 HD in the UK. You can buy Arrow Season 1 on Blu-ray for £11.25 at Amazon.co.uk.
