According to The Hollywood Reporter, The CW are developing classic Justice Society of America member Hourman for his own TV series, possibly to spin-off from Arrow (or maybe even the Flash) given the network’s current business model.

The Sopranos‘ Michael Caleo is set to write and executive produce alongside Dan Lin and Lin Pictures’ head of television, Jennifer Gwartz, for Warner Bros Television.

Hourman first appeared in Adventure Comics #48 (March 1940) as Rex Tyler, a chemist who discovered a wonder drug called Miraclo, which imbues him with the innuendo-laden “Hour of Power” that grants him 60 minutes worth of super strength, speed and endurance. His son Rick Tyler took on the role in Infinity Inc #21 (December 1985).

The hour limit on his superpowers is a handy storytelling device, especially in TV, but both incarnations of the character have also struggled with their addiction of Miraclo, and strained relationships with their friends and family as a result.

Arrow Season 2 is airing every Monday at 8pm, on Sky 1 HD and Sky Go. Arrow Season 1 is out now on DVD for £21.02 or on Blu-ray for £27.49 from Amazon.co.uk.
