Arrow Season 2: Oliver Queen gets a proper mask

Entertainment Weekly released the picture above, showing Arrow Season 2‘s Stephen Amell rocking a proper domino mask in his guise of Oliver Queen instead of the make-up smear around the eyes that was merely evocative of one.

Explaining the decision, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said, “Conceptually, it was something we wanted to do because Oliver himself is evolving as the Arrow–  from vigilante to hero, sort of from Arrow to Green Arrow — and we wanted to see that progression in his costume as well.

“As Oliver is embracing being a hero, being a hero means stepping out of the dark and being more of a symbol, so he has to take steps to conceal his identity more.”

Not keen? Well, Arrow’s new mask could have been a helluva a lot worse…

“A lot of our early attempts were very, shall I say, Joel Schumacher-esque. And it was really Greg [Berlanti, executive producer] who said not to overcomplicate it. I think what’s so wonderful about the design […] is that it really is very simple, and it feels as if it’s been part of his costume since the beginning…once we finally had this mask and put it on Stephen [Amell], even Stephen was like, ‘This is the right one.’”

Arrow Season 2 is airing every Monday at 8pm, on Sky 1 HD and Sky Go. Arrow Season 1 is out now on DVD for £21.02 or on Blu-ray for £27.49 from Amazon.co.uk.
