Aquaman trailer Jason Momoa fights to prove he’s the rightful king of Atlantis

Arthur Curry challenges for the throne in the colourful and fun first trailer for James Wan’s Aquaman

The first trailer for Aquaman is here and we finally have an idea of what James Wan and his team are bringing to Arthur Curry’s solo movie. Turns out, it’s looking like it could be a lot of fun.

First of all, it’s awesome to see that Wan and company have just…embraced it. It looks big, it looks colourful and there’s goddamn sea-life everywhere. Jason Momoa’s surfer dude take on the character makes more sense here than some may have felt it did in Justice League, and it’s hard to think “dark and gritty” when there’s a goat reaction shot.

There’s also Amber Heard as Mera, who popped up briefly in JL, Patrick Wilson as Orn/Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Arthur’s father Tom Curry, and Nicole Kidman as Arthur’s mother Atlanna. Not featured in the trailer are Willem Dafoe as Arthur’s mentor Vulko and Dolph Lundgren as Nereus.

“From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa in the title role.  The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.”

Aquaman is released on 14 December. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
