Lost and The Hobbit star Evangeline Lilly has offered fans their first glimpse of her Ant-Man heroine Hope Van Dyne via Instagram.

Hope is the daughter of original Ant-Man inventor Hank Pym and superhero socialite Wasp, Janet Van Dyne, and is a possible love interest for Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang.

The hair is a clear nod to the Silver Age bob of Janet – the woman who actually named The Avengers in their comic-book debut.

Killed off-camera sometime between nearly appearing in Joss Whedon’s Avengers Assemble and nearly appearing in Ant-Man, the absence of Janet Van Dyne in the movie has been dubbed by many in the Twitter branch of the merry Marvel marching society a #JanetVanCrime.

It seems likely that Hope will step up as Wasp in the movie, but why echo Janet when you could have just used her?
