Annabelle 3 will be directed by Gary Dauberman

Writer Gary Dauberman will make the jump to directing for Annabelle 3

The Conjuring universe will continue to expand, as Warner Bros and New Line have put the wheels in motion on a third Annabelle movie. It’s no surprise, given the huge success they had with David F Sandberg’s Annabelle: Creation last year, but with Sandberg currently more than a little busy directing Shazam!, they’ve found another veteran of the franchise to take over the reins.

Variety reports that writer Gary Dauberman will make his directorial debut with the currently untitled Annabelle 3, and that he’ll also write the script. Dauberman is in high demand at the moment, having written the first two Annabelle movies as well as Andy Muchietti’s It: Chapter One (he’s back for the sequel that’s starting production soon). He’s also written upcoming Conjuring spin-off The Nun.

Annabelle: Creation made over $300 million worldwide from a budget of $15 million, and was one of the big horror success of last year. We’ll have to wait and see if the scary doll can repeat that magic in 2019…

The untitled Annabelle sequel will be released on 3 July 2019. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
