American Horror Story Season 2’s Jessica Lange is playing a “very different” character

Jessica Lange’s character in American Horror Story: Asylum “shares history” with Constance

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, American Horror Story Season 2 star Jessica Lange revealed just how far removed her new character is from Season 1’s Golden Globe Award-winning predatory psycho next door Constance Langdon, saying, “She’s very different. She’s also a survivor. I’m not even sure where we’re going with her, but there are certain elements of their history that are definitely shared.”

That Season 2, American Horror Story: Asylum, would shake up the format of the show completely was as big a surprise to Jessica Lange as it was to the viewers.

“That was never discussed when we started,” reveals Lange. “I’m not sure when they came to that decision, but I’m grateful for it. I don’t know how they would have sustained that same story over several seasons. One thing that appealed to me was establishing a character over 12 hours. Usually in film, you’ve got two hours to create this character, and I thought that would be interesting to try to sustain. Would I like to still be doing that same character within that same storyline? No. So this was a great boon that they decided to do it this way.”

American Horror Story: Asylum is due to air in October on FX, while Season 1 is available on DVD and Blu-ray from 15 October 2012. Pre-order it now on DVD or on Blu-ray from Amazon.co.uk.
