American Gods Season 2 loses Kristin Chenoweth as Easter

Kristin Chenoweth has left American Gods Season 2 in solidarity with former showrunner Bryan Fuller

American Gods Season 2 has already lost a lot, what with creators Bryan Fuller and Michael Green leaving the show after the first season following budget disputes.

Now it’s gone and lost Kristin Chenoweth (American Gods) , who starred in Season 1’s final episode ‘Come To Jesus‘ as Easter, the Germanic goddess of the dawn.

Chenoweth herself confirmed that she’s left the show to TVLine at NBC’s A Very Wicked Halloween: Celebrating 15 Years On Broadway press event this week. In particular, she cited her longstanding friendship with Fuller as the reason behind her departure.

She said: “I couldn’t come back without him. It wouldn’t be right… I mean, Bryan’s my guy.”

It is currently unclear whether Easter will be recast or if the character will simply not appear in any more episodes of the show. That’s presuming it gets its shit together and actually makes some more episodes.

American Gods‘ second season doesn’t currently have a showrunner. The show also stars Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, Emily Browning as Laura Moon, Crispin Glover as Mr World, Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, Pablo Schreiber as Mad Sweeney and Ian McShane as Mr Wednesday.
