American Gods Season 2 confirmed, OMG

Two episodes in and Starz has committed to more American Gods

We’re only two episodes into the first season of American Gods but Starz has jumped in with an early decision regarding its fate, and it’s great news.

Deadline reports that American Gods Season 2 will be going ahead, and they say that we can expect at least the same number of episodes next year (Season One clocks in at a modest eight episodes).

The ratings have been good so far, providing Starz with one of its highest-rated drama debuts, and the critical reaction has been ecstatic. With so much of the story left to tell (originally the first season was supposed to end at House On The Rock but we may not even get there), it’s such a relief to know that Bryan Fuller and Michael Green will be able to continue.

Starz programming president Carmi Zlotnik said “Bryan Fuller, Michael Green and Neil Gaiman have evolved the art form of television narratively, structurally and graphically with American Gods, and we’re thrilled to be working again with these artists as they continue to build the worlds and wars of the gods.” FremantleMedia North America’s co-CEO Craig Cegielski added “American Gods has been a ground-breaking series born out of belief and it’s thrilling to be partnered with Starz to continue this ambitious story. Neil Gaiman, Bryan Fuller and Michael Green have ignited a conversation through cinematic magic, presented through a diverse ensemble of actors that continue to keep us engaged and inspired.”

If you haven’t made a start on American Gods yet, you absolutely must. The second episode was just as stellar as the first, featuring a searing performance from Orlando Jones as Anansi and bringing in the superb Cloris Leachman and Peter Stormare as Zorya Vechernayaya and Czernobog. Is good. Oh, and how could we forget Gillian Anderson as Media?

American Gods stars Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, Ian McShane as Mr Wednesday, Emily Browning as Laura Moon, Pablo Schreiber as Mad Sweeney, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, Jonathan Tucker as Low Key Lyesmith, Crispin Glover as Mr World, Cloris Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya, Peter Stormare as Czernobog, Chris Obi as Mr Jacquel, Mousa Kraish as the Jinn, Gillian Anderson as Media, Omid Abtahi as Salim, Orlando Jones as Mr Nancy, Demore Barnes as Mr Ibis, Dane Cook as Robbie, Kristin Chenoweth as Easter, Corbin Bernsen as Vulcan, Jeremy Davies as Jesus and Beth Grant as Jack.
