American Gods first look at Yetide Badaki as Bilquis

Here’s Yetide Badaki as Bilquis in Bryan Fuller’s American Gods TV series

We’ve had our first look at Ricky Whittle (Shadow Moon), Ian McShane (Mr Wednesday) and Pablo Schreiber (Mad Sweeney) in Bryan Fuller and Michael Green’s TV show of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods, and now, thanks to Vanity Fair, here’s Yetide Badaki as the glorious Bilquis, the ancient goddess of love.

As the site notes, Fuller has been vocal about expanding Bilquis’ role from the book, and has stated that they plan to keep the amazing sequence in which she consumes a fellow without using her mouth as close to the novel’s depiction as possible.

This picture also shows that the tradition of Bryan Fuller shows looking beautiful is very much intact. Look at all that red!

American Gods also stars Gillian Anderson as Media, Emily Browning as Shadow’s wife Laura, Orlando Jones as Mr Nancy, Demore Barnes as Mr Ibis, Crispin Glover as Mr World, Peter Stormare as Czernobog, Jonathan Tucker as Low Key Lyesmith, Dane Cook as Robbie, Bruce Langley as Technical Boy and the great Cloris Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya.

“American Gods been translated into over 30 languages and earned numerous accolades including Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel. The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.”

American Gods will air on Starz in 2017. No UK broadcaster has been announced. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
